We have heard our viewers’ demand for a more diverse spectrum of perspectives and backgrounds on our networks and we are working diligently to create a stronger multicultural presence on our air.


We are honored to collaborate with the following organizations and support their missions to increase diversity in media and entertainment.

Alliance for Women in Media
The Alliance for Women in Media is an organization dedicated to connecting, recognizing, and inspiring women across segments of the media industry. Through recognition events and professional development, AWM’s purpose is to bring talented, dedicated, established and up-and-coming women in media together. Members benefit from shared ideas and experiences, and receive access to professional training.

As an advocate for The Alliance for Women in Media, Crown Media Family Networks sponsors the annual Gracie’s Awards Gala, at which President & CEO, Bill Abbott, and EVP, Programming & Network Publicity, Michelle Vicary, have participated as speakers and presenters.

Emma Bowen Foundation
The Emma Bowen Foundation recruits promising students of color and places them in multi-year paid internships at some of the nation's leading media and technology companies, providing the media and tech industries with a pipeline of young talent and emerging leadership, and advocates for best practices in diverse hiring, retention, and advancement. The Emma Bowen Foundation believes that diversity is important in all aspects of the media industry, from the correspondents in front of the camera to the media sales departments bringing in revenue to the coders and engineers who are changing the way we access and understand content. The foundation prepares its students for careers in the Business of Media (Media Sales, PR, Marketing, HR), Content of Media (News Production, Broadcast Journalism, Print Journalism), and Innovation of Media (Engineering, Software Development, Digital Marketing).

Since 2004, Crown Media Family Networks has partnered with the Emma Bowen Foundation serving as a key corporate media sponsor, as well as a participant in the foundation’s internship program. Through the program, Crown Media hires summer interns, each of whom works for the company for four consecutive years and is provided with hands-on experience and mentorship opportunities within the organization.

National Association of Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC)
Founded in 1980, the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) is the premier organization that educates, advocates and empowers for multi-ethnic diversity in the communications industry. NAMIC’s success stems from their ability to provide the resources that allow members to cultivate their individual careers and foster their personal and professional development.

Crown Media Family Networks employees attend NAMIC’s annual Diversity Conference and several have been active on the Board of Directors for various local chapters of NAMIC. In addition, Crown Media sponsors such annual NAMIC events as their Awards Breakfast and Diversity Breakfast.

She Runs It (Formerly Advertising Working Women of New York or AWNY)
Founded in 1912, Advertising Women of New York's (AWNY) mission is to empower women in our industry to achieve personal and professional fulfillment at each stage of their careers. Membership now stands at nearly 1,700 and ranges from senior level executives to those just beginning their careers.

Crown Media Family Networks is an annual sponsor of AWNY’s Advertising Working Mothers of the Year Luncheon and Women to Watch Luncheon.

T. Howard Foundation
The T. Howard Foundation recognizes the importance and value of a culturally diverse and highly skilled workforce. The organization’s goal is to increase the representation of minorities in the media and entertainment industry through comprehensive programs designed for college students and young professionals. The T. Howard Foundation (THF) has placed nearly 1,000 interns in full-time paid summer internships throughout the media and entertainment industry since its inception in 1994. Since the Foundation’s fall 2011 new hire initiative, over 400 alumni have been hired into full-time permanent positions. This includes more than 300 alumni hired within the media and entertainment industry in the areas of sales, marketing, information technology, public relations, finance, production and many others.

Each year, Crown Media Family Networks is a key sponsor of T. Howard’s annual Diversity Dinner. Additionally, Crown Media acts as a recruitment source for T. Howard’s internship and new hire programs. In 2016, Crown Media Family Networks’ President & CEO, Bill Abbott, was awarded with T. Howard’s esteemed Diversity Partner Award.

Walter Kaitz Foundation
The Walter Kaitz Foundation is central to the cable industry’s long-standing commitment to diversity as it seeks to advance the contributions of women and multi-ethnic professionals in cable. Its annual “Diversity Week” brings together many of the industry’s most prominent members to strategize on ways to improve cable’s recruitment, training, and promotion of minorities. Crown Media Family Networks is a long-time partner of the Kaitz Foundation and annually sponsors the Kaitz Dinner.

Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT)
WICT develops women leaders who transform the cable industry. Serving more than 10,000 members across the media, WICT is the largest and most renowned organization representing women in the cable arena. Since WICT’s creation in 1979, their objective is to create female leaders who transform the industry. They accomplish this through highly acclaimed training and development programs designed to develop women at every professional level. In addition, WICT advocates for women in cable by commissioning gender diversity research and sharing proven diversity and inclusion tactics that demonstrate the strong benefits businesses realize with a more gender diverse team.

As proponents of WICT, Crown Media Family Networks employees regularly participate in the organization’s many development and leadership programs including the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute, Rising Leaders, Executive Development Seminars, and Leadership Conference. Crown Media employees have also been recognized with the WICT Lea Lifetime Achievement Award and been named among WICT’s prestigious Wonder Women.
